Hippokampos by crocodile (Barbara Laumbacher)
A horse or a sea snake? A monster? A mythical creature?
In Greek mythology Hippokampos is Poseidon’s mount and chariot horse. It is shown in a lot of illustrations, always as a magnificent horse with an elegant serpent’s body.
Also this shawl is magnificent, made of precious materials as is due to the sovereign of the oceans. A silk ribbon yarn and a silk yarn with little beads and sequins, reminiscent of little waterdrops merge to an unusual design.
Triangle shaped areas with a texture in "crazy lace" pattern make elegant curves with a subtle glitter.
Indeed, a mythical creature! But a very confiding one, it likes to nestle up against neck and shoulders!
Hippokampos is worked with short rows and random lace. In principle not a very challenging technique, the pattern is composed only of yarnovers, k2tog, ssk, p2tog and ssp, but requires some concentration! But after getting accustomed to the principle it will be much fun working this extraordinary and free-spirited shawl. You will be amazed how soon you will have finished your fabulous creature!
Materials required for this shawl are two skeins Seda Corriente and one skein ArtYarns either Beaded Silk & Sequins Light or Beaded Mohair & Sequins. You could combine according to your taste contrasting and multicolored skeins or choose more tonal yarns together.
