Quetzalcóatl - by crocodile
Barbara Laumbacher herself tells how this design came to live:
"Some years ago I visited two exciting exhibitions in Berlin, „Frida Kahlo“ and „Teotihuacan“ and I spent an interesting day between the newer and the ancient history of Mexico.
From Frida’s impressive paintings full of passion but also of cruel working vulnerability, often influenced by the pre-Columbian art of the Aztecs, to the point of their famous city of Teotihuacan.
In “the city of the winged serpent” I gained impressions of a strange and mysterious culture. A lot of the shown objects appeared threatening, despite of their colorfulness there had been an impression of vulnerability and cruelness.
But there had also been a great fascination!
Colors, shapes and symbols of this ancient culture together with the beautiful and manifold dyed Twisted Fifties inspired me to this design, named after the winged serpent, the Creator in the Aztec mythology, Quetzalcóatl."
Quetzalcóatl is a challenging project. There are intarsia, stranded knitting from both sides and also lace elements in right side and wrong side rows. But who will make the effort will be rewarded with an individual and unique shawl.
